Our verdict
Perplexity reframes the AI chat experience as an 'answer engine'. Every response is grounded in live web sources with inline citations, making it the default choice for research and current events. Pro users can switch between GPT-5, Claude, Gemini and Sonar models for the same query.
It is not the strongest at long creative writing or coding, and its smaller free message cap than the major chatbots can frustrate heavy users. As a Google-replacement for trustworthy answers, however, it has very few peers.
