Our verdict

Microsoft Copilot is OpenAI's GPT-5 wrapped in Microsoft's UX. For anyone living in Windows, Office or Edge, Copilot is essentially a free, well-integrated assistant that can summarise emails, draft Word documents and analyse Excel data without leaving the app.

The trade-off is reduced model flexibility versus going direct to OpenAI, and some of the most useful Office features require an enterprise license. As a default assistant for Microsoft-shop users, however, it's the path of least resistance.
